A new report has found Victoria’s design sector is continuing to perform strongly. The Design Victoria report Five Years On – Victoria’s Design Sector 2003-2008 was commissioned by RMIT University as part of the Brumby Government’s Design Victoria Strategy, a $15 million commitment over four years to grow Victoria’s design sector.

The research found:

  • Victorian businesses that use design are more likely to show profit growth, as well as higher rates of profit growth, than those that don’t invest in design; and
  • While Victorian businesses use design at rates comparable to similar OECD countries, such as Denmark and Ireland, there is scope to use design more effectively to drive competitiveness.

Chairman of the Design Victoria Advisory Board Tony Quick said: “This research demonstrates that businesses that understand and value design are far more likely to have profitability growth and at faster rates. This translates to being a strong area for job growth.”
